Charlie Hunter Trio (USA)
American jazz trio Charlie Hunter Trio brings live music to Prague's Jazz Dock.
Charlie Hunter Trio is an American jazz group led by guitarist Charlie Hunter, known for playing a custom-built eight-string guitar that lets him handle bass lines, chords and melody all at once. Formed in San Francisco in the early 1990s, the group released its debut album in 1993 and drew wider attention with 1995's Bing, Bing, Bing! on Blue Note Records. Hunter's style - a blend of jazz, funk, soul and blues - has produced numerous independent-label releases and a Grammy nomination for the album SuperBlue: The Iridescent Spree.
In September 2026, Charlie Hunter with the current trio lineup (Marcus Finnie and Nate Clark) released a recording of AM Clock Radio.
At the beginning of 2026, the trio undertook an extensive tour of the USA, including in Los Angeles, Portland, Denver, and Boston.
In July 2025, the album Different Strokes for Different Folks was released, a duet project by Charlie Hunter with guitarist Ella Feingold on his label SideHustle Records.
The album SuperBlue: The Iridescent Spree, on which Hunter collaborated with singer Kurt Elling, received a Grammy nomination in the Best Alternative Jazz Album category.
