Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778) was a Swedish naturalist who developed the binomial nomenclature system for classifying living organisms. His work Systema Naturae laid the foundations of modern taxonomy for plants, animals, and minerals. He is widely regarded as the "father of modern taxonomy".
