About

Burl Ives (1909-1995) was an American folk singer, actor, and storyteller whose career ran for more than six decades. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1958 western The Big Country and created the role of Big Daddy in the original Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. As a musician he brought traditional folk songs into the American mainstream, and his 1964 Christmas recordings - above all 'A Holly Jolly Christmas' - continue to chart every holiday season.
