Bong Joon-ho is a South Korean director and screenwriter whose films blend genres and sharp social commentary. He built his reputation with thrillers like Memories of Murder and the monster film The Host before breaking global records with Parasite (2019), which became the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture - and also took the Palme d'Or at Cannes that same year.
