Bohuslav Fuchs

About

Bohuslav Fuchs (1895-1972) was a Czech architect, urban planner and educator whose career is inseparable from the functionalist transformation of Brno. He trained under Jan Kotěra at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and from 1922 shaped Brno's cityscape through dozens of buildings - among them the Avion Hotel, Zeman Café and Masaryk Students' Home. A permanent delegate to CIAM and corresponding member of RIBA, he was named National Artist in 1968; most of his works are now listed cultural monuments.

The Brno City Museum opened an exhibition titled New World of Bohuslav Fuchs and Rudolf Sandal on March 24, 2025 at Spilberk Castle, which will run until the end of 2025.

For the 130th anniversary of the architect's birth, a traveling inflatable sculpture of Bohuslav Fuchs was presented in Brno and a year-long program of events titled Glory of Fuchs was launched.

The Květná 1794 glassworks released the FUCHS collection for the 130th anniversary - a reinterpretation of Fuchs's glass designs from the 1930s.

As part of the Open House Brno 2025 festival, on April 26 a guided tram ride named after Fuchs took place with a photographic exhibition of 17 of his buildings.

A new tombstone of biologist Kříženecký designed by Bohuslav Fuchs was unveiled in Brno, with the original project being realized anew.
