William James Murray (born September 21, 1950) is an American actor and comedian who rose to fame on Saturday Night Live before starring in a string of defining comedies - Ghostbusters (1984), Groundhog Day (1993) - and later earning an Oscar nomination, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Lost in Translation (2003). A long-running collaborator of Wes Anderson, he has appeared in nearly every Anderson film since Rushmore (1998). Since 2025 he has also toured the US as frontman of the blues outfit Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers.
