Benjamin Britten (1913–1976) was an English composer, pianist and conductor, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in 20th-century British music. He is known for operas such as Peter Grimes and The Turn of the Screw, as well as vocal works including Les Illuminations, a song cycle for voice and strings set to texts by Arthur Rimbaud.
