Barton MacLane (December 25, 1902 - January 1, 1969) was an American actor, playwright, and screenwriter who accumulated over 140 film appearances across four decades. He built his reputation playing villains and hard-edged tough guys in 1930s and 1940s Hollywood - most memorably alongside Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon (1941) and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Later generations know him as the bumbling General Martin Peterson on the NBC sitcom I Dream of Jeannie (1965-1969). He holds a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to television.
