Antonia San Juan is a Spanish actress, director and screenwriter born in 1961 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She gained international recognition for her role as the transgender sex worker Agrado in Pedro Almodóvar's All About My Mother (1999), winning the Spanish Actors' Union Award for Best Supporting Actress. Beyond that breakthrough, her career spans the Netflix sci-fi hit The Platform (2019), the long-running TV comedy La que se avecina, and a prolific stage career run through her own company, Trece Producciones.
In January 2026, Antonia San Juan returned to the stage with a new comedy La ropa vieja de Cuca, which combines humor with reflections on the role of women in Canarian families.
In September 2025, the actress publicly announced a throat cancer diagnosis and temporarily suspended her theatrical activities to undergo treatment.
She informed fans of the diagnosis through a video on Instagram, in which she stated that she has been suffering from vocal cord problems for more than a year and underwent a biopsy.
