Albert Einstein (1879–1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist, widely regarded as one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century. He developed the special and general theories of relativity and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his discovery of the photoelectric effect. His equation E=mc² became an iconic symbol of modern science.
