aiko (born Aiko Yanai on 22 November 1975 in Suita, Osaka) is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter who has been active since her major-label debut in 1998. Known for her distinctive voice and emotionally direct love songs, she has released over 47 singles and 16 studio albums on Pony Canyon. Her 2000 album Sakura no Ki no Shita sold over 1.4 million copies, and she topped the Oricon favourite-singer poll two years running in 2005 and 2006.
