Aaron Kyle Tveit (born October 21, 1983, in Middletown, New York) is an American actor and singer who works across Broadway, film, and television. He rose to international prominence as Christian in the original Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical (2019), winning the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical and earning a Grammy nomination. His subsequent Broadway credits include the title role in Sweeney Todd (2024) and Freddie Trumper in the first Broadway revival of Chess (2025-2026); on screen he is best known as Enjolras in the film adaptation of Les Misérables (2012).
The Broadway revival of the musical Chess with Tveit in the role of Freddie Trumper ended its run on June 21, 2026 after more than 250 regular performances and five Tony Award nominations.
The Broadway cast recording of Chess from 2025 was released on Spotify and other streaming platforms.
Chess had its Broadway premiere on November 16, 2025 at Imperial Theatre; Tveit, Lea Michele and Nicholas Christopher were praised by critics as some of the strongest voices of contemporary Broadway.
Tveit returned in May 2025 for a solo concert at Mercyhurst University, with audiences coming from 23 American states, Canada and Germany.
Tveit took on the role of Sweeney Todd in the Broadway revival of Sondheim's musical alongside Sutton Foster; their twelve-week engagement lasted until May 5, 2024.
