Public Space of František Skála

Public Space of František Skála

  • Genre: Documentary
  • Country: Czechia
  • Runtime: 90 min

On a playful journey through public space with one of the most versatile Czech artists František Skála, it is possible to see the world differently. With humor, gravity and self-irony, the visual artist, performer and musician allows an exceptional glimpse into many imagined doors, behind which lie beauty in imperfection, poetry in the ordinary, handprints in the flow of time and the joy of creation as a way of life. Skála's creative energy is felt even in the process of creating the monumental sculpture of the dog Vulpes Gott from the creation of the model through its journey by boat down the Elbe to the opening in Dresden. The narrative is interwoven with the artist's diaries and objects in public space, including his first sculpture in the castle park of Veltrusy, Prastánek or the Paradise Garden at Sluňakov. The film features friends of František Skála, the band Třaskavá směs and the brass band Provodovjané and philosopher Miroslav Petříček. Skála's Renaissance personality is also known from the Sklep Theater, the group Tvrdohlaví, the ensemble Tros Sketos or M.T.O. Universal.
