Freedom's Illusion

Original title: Přelud svobody

  • Genre: Comedy · Drama
  • Country: France · Italy
  • Runtime: 104 min

Bourgeois conventions get torn apart in this surrealist gem by Luis Buñuel. It shows an elegant dinner party where guests are seated on toilet bowls, monks playing poker, consuming holy wafers like chips, and police officers searching for a lost girl they have right under their noses. This perversely absurd comedy skillfully combines themes that Buñuel dealt with throughout his work - from hypocrisy and false morality to the arbitrariness of social rules.
