Every major city has one district with a dubious reputation. The residents of the 8th district in Budapest represent a kind of new multicultural melting pot. Hungarians, Roma, Chinese, Arabs, Americans and Germans live here together with several police officers, prostitutes and animals. In the story of a Hungarian-Roma modern version of Romeo and Juliet, we glimpse into the adventurous life of a street gang and the families of its members, which is full of humor, crime, honor, love and sex, friendship and eternal mutual quarrels. The problems and selfish interests of two Roma families eventually escalate into an international conflict. Director Áron Gauder in his animated film brings a provocative, sometimes harsh vision of contemporary Eastern Europe, presented on the microcosm of a dilapidated world. He does not mince words, offering irony and straightforward exaggeration, as well as sharp wit and "far-out" humor. Interesting and unconventional animation, admittedly inspired by fantasy films and the American series South Park, is interspersed with quality music, with characters from socially declassed strata speaking the language of hip hop. The film was awarded numerous international recognitions, in 2005 it was the Main Prize Crystal from Annecy, the Grand Prize for a long film at the 29th Animated Film Festival in Ottawa, and the Grand Prix at the 9th International Festival of Animated Films in Seoul.
