Baletky

A multimedia stage project by dancer Mirenka Cechova in collaboration with Spitfire Company.

To be a product of the system. A cog in the machine that must not break, must not deviate, must not even excel too much. The state, the system, institutions, schools, education, employers - they all want the "perfect" employee, producing obedient and safe output, a blind copy of themselves. Same uniform, same thinking, same possibilities. In this story, it's the same dress, same hairstyle, same biscuits, and same movements of murdered children's souls.

Rebellion - the only possible way out to resist suffocating unfreedom?

The multimedia stage project "Baletky" is an abstract descent into the soul of a girl fighting against a despotic, dogmatic system and the loss of her own identity. Accompanied by bizarre and dark humor, live music, rhythmicized texts, and physical expression, we witness a person struggling with blind obedience, self-destruction, and the fear of failing their dream - all set against surreal images and artistic objects representing universally valid phenomena of manipulation and terror. "Baletky" is the story of everyone who refuses to be a tamed bear cub.

The project is based on the book "Baletky" by Mirenka Cechova, published in February 2020 by Paseka.
