What Lies in My Belly?
I draw what lies in my belly, what I dislike, or what I'm afraid of. And what if I'm afraid of drawing? That's okay, it still works. I can throw away the pencil and scratch, fold, cut - and see what emerges from my fear. In the end, it might not be so scary. Maybe I can even like it. Or not, and then a talisman comes in handy.
This art workshop offers children a chance to get a little dirty - with black color and dark thoughts - and work with materials intuitively. Content determines form here, because illustration isn't always drawn and certainly not always pretty - just like our inner worlds and the fears within them, which want to come out.
The workshop is led by Dora Dutková, an illustrator and visual artist who experiments with different materials and ways images can be created. She is the author of books including "Papaver: Adventures in Botany" and the recently published "Alice". The workshop loosely connects to the exhibition "Annette Messager: Tragicomedy" at Kunsthalle Praha, which moves between playfulness and unease, between what attracts us and what we're a little afraid of.
Capacity: 15 children
Age: 6-11 years
